Join printmaker and designer Dena O'Brien and learn how to make a beautiful 30cm drum lampshade. Dena will demonstrate a step by step approach allowing you to work at your own speed. Plenty of time for questions and lots of top tips to get that professional finish. By day two you will have made a beautiful 2 colour hand printed lampshade with some sample fabric and paper swatches to make into other items at home.
Day one: 10.00am - 4.00pm
Morning: Introduction to pattern designing using hand cut stencils. Researching ideas, planning and transferring ideas into a pattern repeat. Working from your initial drawing Dena will guide you on how to create your separated layers into stencils.
Afternoon: Set up your fabric panels, mix colours, measure repeats, using a screen and squeegee print layer one of your repeat pattern. Dry and set up layer 2, mix the second colour ready to print on day two.
Day two: 10.00am - 4.00pm
Morning: Complete layer two of fabric repeats. Dry and fix hand printed paƩern using an iron.
Afternoon: Set up to make 30cm diameter lampshades. Gather lampshades, tea and recap on the two days and how to develop further your screen prinƟng and lampshade making.
What to bring: Apron, A4 or A3 cuƫng mat, pencil, eraser, inspiration such as books, sketches, photographs. (keep in mind you are creating a hand cut stencil repeat pattern). Keep your ideas simple as detail can be difficult to achieve and screen print.
