The course will be a study of the portrait using graphite pencil and the rubber. To begin there will be a warm up and demonstration of the wide variety of marks and tone you can achieve with the simple pencil to create 3D portraits with light and tone.
Capturing a likeness and character and the anatomy of the skull and underlying muscles and the planes will be described. Suggestions of what to leave out and what to leave in will be an integral part of drawing a convincing portrait.
This course is suitable for all abilities.
Materials to bring:
Medium to heavy white cartridge paper/sketch pad A3 or A2, SOFT graphite pencils, B, 2B- 6B, sharpener or knife - essential!
