Born by the sea in Lincolnshire in the 1950’s, Denise spent 3 years studying Art at Teacher Training College in Kent, at a time when ‘Abstract Art was the only way forward!’ This put her off painting for several years and with a career in Merchant Banking in the City of London her interest in painting was shelved.
A move to the West Country resulted in Denise rediscovering her love for painting and drawing; and teaching adults on an informal basis. Although inspired by many subjects, including people, her latest work aims to capture and interpret the dynamic clouds, changing light, atmosphere and staggering beauty of the Devon and Cornwall Coast in all seasons.
Denise now lives in Totnes, painting regularly with a group of artists. She enjoys exploring the South Hams and walking the South Devon Coast path, always on the look-out for inspiration for a painting.
